FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS THE TIME COMMITMENT?

Typically, teams practice twice a week with games on weekends.  Most weekends, games will be either on Saturday or Sunday. On some weekends there will be games on both Saturday and Sunday. If your child is invited to join OVF and you accept the invitation, you are expected to commit to the following:

  1. “Fall Season” – starts in mid July and can run through mid November
  2.  Preseason Tournament- Friday/Saturday/Sunday at the end of August
  3.  Fall league and President’s or Founder’s Cup season - September through early November
  4. “Spring season” - starts in mid January and can run through April
  5.  Spring league and State Cup season - February through April (depending on league level)

WHEN DO WE GET THE GAME SCHEDULE?

Our soccer club plays league games through Oregon Youth Soccer Association (OYSA). This organization schedules all the games and all the referees for all the clubs within the state. OYSA releases schedules as quickly as possible but often game schedules are not completed and released to clubs until 2 weeks before the season starts. However, games can only be scheduled a month at a time due to the complexity of venue agreements at most clubs, thus the whole season will not be released all at once. Expect to receive the next month's game schedule usually 2 weeks before the beginning of that month. Your coach or team manager should make the schedule available to you as soon as it is released by OYSA. You should expect to have 1-2 games on most weekends during league play.

WHAT IS THE TRAVEL COMMITMENT?

Teams will share practice locations between Albany and Corvallis facilities. The goal is for each team to split practice locations between Albany and Corvallis, however, due to scheduling conflicts or weather related field closures there may be brief times that your child’s practice schedule is not equally divided.

Games will be played throughout the state. You may be required to travel to Portland/Vancouver,  Medford, or Bend. Your team will also have “home” games scheduled at Albany or Corvallis facilities.

WHAT ABOUT THE FINANCIAL COMMITMENT?

OVF Alliance strives to provide the youth of Albany and Corvallis and the surrounding Linn, Benton, Marion, and Polk County communities with a premier soccer experience at an affordable price.

Please keep in mind that if you accept a position with an OVF Alliance team, you are making a year-long commitment. Fees are non-refundable if a player chooses to leave a team or is injured prior to the completion of the year. Payment plan options are provided to make participation more accessible for all, but are not reflective of costs incurred by the club, and must be paid out in full even if a player chooses to leave the club prior to completion of the year.

ARE SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE?

Yes! It is our club’s goal to make club soccer an affordable opportunity for all players. No player will be turned away for financial reasons. If you are in need of a scholarship in order to participate this season, please complete the scholarship application HERE. Fill out this application and submit it BEFORE completing a player registration. Please note that players and families receiving scholarship funds will be expected to complete volunteer or community service hours. Contact Anna Akers with any questions concerning financial aid.

WHAT ABOUT UNIFORMS?

Uniforms are on a TWO year cycle. This means that every two years, club players are expected to purchase new uniform kits. Uniform fees are in addition to player fees. Every two years, uniform sponsors change or uniform styles may change and players are expected to wear the new uniforms during games. The current two year cycle for uniforms is FALL 2024 – SPRING 2026.

WHERE DO I GET MY UNIFORM?

After accepting an invitation to join a team, you will receive information about registering your child.  After your child has been registered, you will receive an email with uniform ordering information and a link to order the kit. Uniforms are purchased through soccer.com. You will need to order a white kit, a navy kit, a training shirt, and a backpack (encouraged but not required). Each color kit will include a jersey, shorts, and socks. The training shirt should be used for practices. The club will assign your player a uniform number as to not duplicate numbers with players from the age division above or below.

SHOULD I WAIT UNTIL CLOSE TO THE BEGINNING OF THE SEASON TO ORDER MY UNIFORM?

No. Uniform orders may take several weeks to fulfill and ship. To ensure that your player has a uniform to wear at the beginning of the season, it is very important that you order your uniform kit as soon as you receive the order email and link.

WHAT COLOR UNIFORM DO I WEAR FOR GAMES?

The rule from OYSA is generally that light colored uniforms are used for all HOME games and dark colored uniforms are used for all AWAY games. If games are scheduled for Albany or Corvallis, your player should wear their WHITE kit. If games are scheduled for any other location, your player should wear their NAVY kit. Your coach or team manager will communicate with you via Stack Team if changes need to be made.

MY CHILD WOULD LIKE TO JOIN THE CLUB BUT MISSED TRYOUTS - WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Generally, team formation is made during tryouts in May before Fall Season begins. If your child was unable to attend tryouts, contact Bryce Burton to discuss roster openings for your player’s age division.

HOW SHOULD I EXPECT TO RECEIVE COMMUNICATION FROM THE CLUB?

In most situations, club leadership will communicate changes, updates or important information through email. After being assigned to a team and registering, specific team information will be communicated through your team’s SportsConnect page or StackTeam app. It is very important that you monitor your email and add the StackTeam app to your phone to receive timely communication from the club and your coach. Updates and communication from the club can also be found on the club’s social media accounts.

QUESTIONS ABOUT SPORTS CONNECT?

Oftentimes families have questions about using Sports Connect. There is a link on the OVF website under the home tab called "Helpful Sports Connect Links". If your particular question is not answered, please contact Bryce Burton.
