U10 Pre-Competitive Program
EXPERT COACHING AND PROVEN METHODS TO START YOUR SOCCER JOURNEY THE RIGHT WAY.
Players in the U10 Pre-Competitive Program begin to compete regionally against other soccer clubs from Eugene, Salem, Portland, and Bend to give our players their first experience against outside competition.
This 6-8-month commitment for our U10 teams includes participation in the Fall and Spring seasons of the Valley Academy League or the Developmental League (based on interest and ability), 2 practices per week, a summer tournament (for those who tryout in July), and the possibility of friendly games, tournaments, and other events.
Based on ability, work ethic, and availability, U10 players may be invited to play in special tournaments or events as the group prepares to make the move to our U11 Competitive program the following year.
League Explanations:
Both of these leagues are designed for U9–U10 players and serve as a developmental bridge between recreational and competitive soccer. The focus is on individual player growth within a team environment, using small-sided 7v7 games to maximize touches, improve decision-making, and create a fun, educational experience.
The Valley Academy League is a specialized regional league structured to balance competition and travel. Each season consists of 8 games played across 4 Saturdays, with teams playing 2 games per day at rotating host locations (such as Albany, Eugene, and Bend). This format provides meaningful regional competition while minimizing the need for weekly travel and is the primary league our U10 teams participate in.
The Developmental League follows more traditional format, with 8 games played weekly on Sundays throughout the season. All games are held in the Portland metro area across several locations. Due to the weekly schedule and Portland centered games locations, this league requires a greater overall time and travel commitment from participating families. This league is typically a supplemental option that only a handful of our U10 teams will participate in.
